Nitrile Rubber, also known as nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) or Buna-N, is a synthetic rubber copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. It was first developed in the 1930s as an oil-resistant alternative to natural rubber. Nitrile rubber has since become a crucial material in various industries, including insulation applications.

Nitrile rubber insulation is a specialized form of this material, designed to provide thermal insulation, electrical insulation, or both, depending on the specific formulation and application. Its unique properties make it an excellent choice for many challenging environments where other materials might fail.

Chemical Composition and Structure
Basic Components:
-Acrylonitrile (CH2=CH-CN)
-Butadiene (CH2=CH-CH=CH2)

The properties of nitrile rubber can be adjusted by varying the ratio of these two monomers. Typically, the acrylonitrile content ranges from 18% to 50%.

Polymerization Process: Nitrile rubber is produced through emulsion polymerization. This process involves:
-Mixing monomers in water with an emulsifier
-Adding a catalyst to initiate the reaction
-Controlling temperature and pressure to achieve desired molecular weight
-Terminating the reaction and recovering the rubber

Molecular Structure: The resulting polymer has a random arrangement of acrylonitrile and butadiene units. The acrylonitrile groups provide polarity and oil resistance, while the butadiene segments contribute to flexibility and low-temperature performance.

Physical and Chemical Properties
General Properties:

-Density: 0.98-1.00 g/cm³
-Glass transition temperature: -40°C to -10°C (depending on acrylonitrile content)
-Melting point: Not applicable (amorphous polymer)

Mechanical Properties:
-Tensile strength: 10-25 MPa
-Elongation at break: 200-500%
-Hardness: 40-95 Shore A

Thermal Properties:
-Service temperature range: -40°C to 125°C (standard grades)
-Thermal conductivity: 0.24 W/m·K (typical for rubber materials)

Chemical Resistance:
-Excellent resistance to oils, fuels, and many solvents
-Good resistance to acids and bases
-Poor resistance to strong oxidizing agents and chlorinated hydrocarbons

Electrical Properties:
-Volume resistivity: 10^9 to 10^12 ohm·cm
-Dielectric strength: 15-20 kV/mm

Nitrile Rubber Insulation for Cold Insulation Pipelines:
Nitrile rubber insulation is widely used for cold insulation pipelines due to its excellent thermal properties and moisture resistance. Its low thermal conductivity (typically 0.033-0.040 W/mK) and closed-cell structure make it highly effective at maintaining low temperatures in fluids while preventing condensation on the pipe's exterior. The material's flexibility allows for easy installation around pipes and fittings, while its durability and chemical resistance ensure long-term performance in various industrial environments. When applied correctly, nitrile rubber insulation can significantly improve energy efficiency in refrigeration systems, chilled water distribution, and other cold fluid transport applications. The insulation thickness is determined based on factors such as pipe diameter, fluid temperature, ambient conditions, and desired surface temperature. Proper installation, including careful sealing of joints and protection from UV radiation in outdoor applications, is crucial for optimal performance. Regular maintenance and inspection help ensure the insulation continues to function effectively, preventing energy loss and potential corrosion issues.

Accoflex Nitrile Tube Insulation is closed-cell thermal insulation having enhanced fire property, tough and flexible with smooth powdered inner surface. It is non-corrosive on copper pipes. It can be use in split air conditioning systems , in plumbing work and in relatiove places.

Nitrile Butadiene Rubber Tube
Nitrile Rubber, also known as nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR), is an oil-resistant synthetic rubber made from an acrylonitrile (CH2=CHCN) and butadiene (CH2=CH-CH=CH2) copolymer. Nitrile Rubber foam is a closed cell insulation material that is highly resistant to moisture vapor, making it a popular choice for condensation control. Nitrile rubber is most commonly found in automotive seals, gaskets, and other items that come into contact with hot oils. Other obvious applications include rolls for spreading ink in printing and hoses for oil products. NBR is also used in textiles, where it improves the finish and waterproofing properties of woven and nonwoven fabrics. Moisture from condensation is a problem in any cold system. The temperature of the contents of the object to be insulated is kept within the process limits by Nitrile Rubber.
